Exclusive Riddims Selector One a.k.a. ERS1 spent his formative youth years in Los Angeles, and has been living Portland, Oregon since 1996. ESR1 formerly Dj Magneto started djing in 1992, playing hip-hop and "rave" techno mixes, now known as oldskool jungle. After a brief interest in the hardcore scene he quickly turned to music that had a dubwise funky flavor, and intricate mix or hip-hop, funk, soul, reggae, jungle and dub.

Early musical influences included hearing reaggae and hip-hop with "tekno", a whole new kind of music (jungle.) He credits early influences to all the djs he saw while party'n in LA such as, RAW Curious, Heretic and Josh Swissman, Jumping Jack Frost, Goldie, Doc Scott, DJ hype and on and on. The Reggae influences came from attending events such as Reggae sunsplash at the Greek amphitheatre in LA in 1993, religiuouly tuning in to the Sunday nite reggae radio show, listening to soundclash tapes and searching for raga hip-hop remixes like KRS1 with Shaba Ranks in the early ‘90s.

Another early and continuing influence are his group of high school friends, who went on to become the hip-hop crew Innernational (out of L.A.) Dj’s Day and Rip-one were his turtnablist yodas, exposing him to the world of tuntablism. Since then he’s attended and watched dj battles, showcases and in the summer of 2000 Scratchcon. Along with the technical influences they also showed him the way to hip-hop’s roots by turning him on to the “breaks”. All which have made him a crate digger, finding out about breaks, looking for them and mixing them. These influences can be seen in everything he spins. He’s hype over scratching and juggling, and in essence creating a whole other track, like live remixing.

Performances by ERS1 undoubtably reflect his turntablism skills, soundclashing knowledge and bashment theories, creating an overall entertaining time. He stands behind his standard that being varied and well versed technically and stylistically are of the highest importance when stepping up to the decks.
