JON ALDENTE, LSF Records, Impressive OS, SF
The convergence of various forms of sound has long been a rallying point for all movements in music. The beginning for Jon Al Dente was the often questioned period of breakbeat culture populated by the likes of Afro-Rican, Success in Effect and various other founders of the Miami Breakbeat scene. From there the point of Movement of the sound was to the U.K, and the development of early Jungle, which became Jon Al Dente's rallying point from "92 through "95 in the Pacific Northwest. From that point in time Jon Al Dente moved on to the Chicago Area, being invited to participate in a forum of Drum and Bass already possesing inertia, and on it's way to becoming a focal point for the genre in America. upon leaving a three year club residency and extensive one-off scedule in this area in 1998, Jon Al Dente moved back West to San Francisco, and started LSF Records, along with the Vinyl company Impressive One Stop, which represents a multitude of record labels of all styles throughout the U.S., from Panhandle (House), to BSI (reggae) and True Intent (Drum and Bass). In light of all this, Jon Al Dente posseses a Feel for Dance music that is rarely matched, and should not be spoke of in categories, but simply heard. |

DJ FLUTTERBY, PDX: Techno fan since 1993--the DJ Dan, Ghost, and Garth mixtapes that her college roommate brought back to campus from San Francisco sure sounded better than that Rave Til Dawn CD. She completely missed out on the early breakbeat and UK hardcore beginnings of jungle (mostly because the title of the Speed Limit 140 BPM+ compilations sounded too "scary"). After hearing a PFM remix of the Eat Static track "Hybrid" in 1997, she was completely enchanted by the atmospheric jungle sound and picked up a copy of LTJ Bukem's Logical Progression Level I, merely because it included a PFM track. One listen, and there was no question that she wanted to mix records and that intelligent DnB was the sound. Flutterby has been spinning fine music for beautiful people for the past four years.
Current residency at the Blue Note Lounge (503 W. Burnside, Portland) on the last Thursday of every month, with the Admix SoundRig Collective, blending DJed beats with live jazz instrumentalists. P.S. to the masses: "Flutterby" is pronounced flutterBYE, not flutterBEE. |
